Spirit Lake, Spencer and Emmetsburg boys and girls golf teams all took part in a triangular at Emmetsburg Monday. The Tigers boys team recorded the win behind four sub-40 rounds for a team total of 148. The Indians took second with a 173, and Emmetsburg was a stroke behind at 174. Spencer’s Jay Monahan recorded an even par 36 for medalist honors. Teammates Jordan Oltman and Joe Clark shot 37 and 38, respectively. Spirit Lake’s Scott Hummel led the Indians with a 38 and Matt Weeks was a shot behind with a 39. For the girls it was a record setting night on the links, as Spirit Lake shot a school record 168 to defeat Emmetsburg and Spencer. Maureen Owens was the top golfer with an even-par 36, while Ashley Nielsen finished with a 40.
Harris-Lake Park boys golf found itself in more of a dog fight than usual, but still came out with a nine-stroke win over Clay Central-Everly by shooting a 172. Brandon Full of CC-E was the meet medalist with a 39, while H-LP’s Nathan Kyle dropped in a 41. Connor Gunderson and Austin Jacobsen were right behind with a 42 and 45, respectively. The Lady Wolves won as well, beating Cherokee 238-271. Sam Brueggeman shot a meet low 48 and Jodi Hibma finished as the runner up with a 56.
The Siouxland Conference held their golf tour meet at Sheldon on Monday, which was won with an impressive team total of 155 by MOC-Floyd Valley. Okoboji finished second, one stroke better than Rock Valley, with a 164. The Pioneers’ Caden Thurgood was the meet medalist with one-over-par 37. Okoboji currently sits four points behind MOC-Floyd Valley in the conference standings. The Okoboji girls placed fifth overall in Sheldon. Kiley Wermersen shot a 42 to earn runner-up honors.
