Five of the area’s longest service high school sports officials, referees and umpires will be part of the 18th Annual Recognition and Awards Banquet on April 28 in Des Moines. Better than 150 officials will be honored inside HyVee Hall for their dedication to high school athletics.
Included in that group are Gary Tonderum and Jay Grabinoski, both of Armstrong, Craig Baker of Estherville, Bill Whiting from Ruthven, and Spencer’s Steve Rhode. All five are 25-year honorees.
The event will also commemorate five officials who have each put in 50 years of dedicated service to Iowa high school sports.
