Area Basketball Results from Friday, Jan. 25

The undefeated Western Christian girls’ basketball team beat Spirit Lake, 86-47, last night in Spirit Lake.  The Wolfpack had three players in double figures.  Emma Dau led Spirit Lake with 13. 

Reinking talks about possible positives 

That’s Spirit Lake Coach Rick Reinking, whose team falls to 11-6, overall, and 7-4 in the Lakes Conference.  They’re home against a tough Estherville-Lincoln Central team on Tuesday.  The coach says he needs to see improvement in at least one area. 

Reinking says rebounding needs to improve 

As for the Spirit Lake Boys, they fell to 13-6 overall, and 5-6 in the Lakes Conference, as they were beaten 60-35, by the Wolfpack boys, who improved their record to 15-1.  Alec Henrickson and Paul Brown led the Indians with nine points apiece.

 

The Harris-Lake Park Boys topped North Union, 67-30, last night. Eli Ihnen had 34 points and 12 rebounds.  Brady Van Ipren, Kade Heikens, and Tanner Hiveley all had 9 for HLP.

The Wolves improved to 15-1, and 9-0 in the Cornbelt Conference.  The HLP Girls also won, they beat North Union, 38-29.  The Wolves were balanced on the offensive end as Mariah Gath had 8, junior Grace Winters had 7, and junior Noreen Morrow had 6.  HLP travels to Clay Central Everly on Tuesday. 

The Spencer Boys and girls teams each fell to LeMars.  The score in the Boys’ game was 62-49, while the girls’ score was 52-35. 

The Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn boys downed Akron Westfield, 50-29. 

The Sibley-Ocheydan Girls downed West Lyon, 46-38.  The West Lyon boys knocked off the Generals, 68-34. 

South O’Brien was victorious in both their boys and girls games.  The boys beat Spalding Catholic, 71-41.  The girls won, 56-34. 

The Storm Lake Boys got by Emmetsburg, in overtime, 71-61, in a game that was tied at 61 at the end of regulation.  The Emmetsburg girls beat the Tornadoes, 60-43.  Emmetsburg had three players in double figures led by Ashton Connelly with 20.  They improve to 2-13, 2-9 and at HWC on Tuesday.  The Storm Lake girls team has now lost 59 games in a row and drop to 0 – 17 on the season. 

The Okoboji girls downed Rock Valley, 57-48.  They’re now 10-5.  The Rock Valley boys topped the Pioneers, 74-58.  Here’s Okoboji coach Ryan Paulsen.
