A Monster Thursday for Okoboji Linksters (Golf RoundUp)

It was a total team effort by the Okoboji boys’ golf team Thursday, winning the Siouxland Conference tour meet at Rock Valley with a 168 total. The win is the Pioneer’s first of the season and moves them into a tie for second in the league standings with Sibley-Ocheyedan, just seven points back of MOC-Floyd Valley. Tyler Ohl shot the only sub-40 round, carding a 38 to sit alone atop the leaderboard. Okoboji also received a pair of 43’s from James Halbur and Ben DeMuth, along with a 44 from Mike Luhrs.

On the girls’ side, Okoboji freshman Alex Mankle has yet another Siouxland Conference meet victory, winning the tour stop at Sibley-Ocheyedan with a 40. Teammate Kiley Wermersen was seven shots back (47) for fifth place. The Pioneers took fourth as a team with a 202, behind meet winner Sioux Center at 191, then MOC-Floyd Valley and Sheldon. With three meets remaining, the Orabs and Dutch are tied for the league lead, with the Warriors and Pioneers each within a dozen points.

The Harris-Lake Park girls’ golf team picked up another Cornbelt Conference dual win Thursday, traveling to West Bend-Mallard and beating the Wolverines, 222-263. Macy Gunderson’s round of 49 earned the sophomore meet medalist honors. The Lady Wolves also counted 57’s by Rachel Vellema and Emily Anderson, while Amanda Hibma came in with a 59.

The HLP boys also picked up the win at West Bend-Mallard, 163-175. The Wolves were led by Nathan Kyle who carded his first round under par of the season with a 35. Ryan Gembler and Connor Gunderson pitched win with 42’s, and Tanner Hiveley finished with a 44.

In a Lakes Conference triangular at Brooks National, the Estherville-Lincoln Central boys enjoyed one of their best afternoons on the links, registering a 164 to knock off Spirit Lake by five strokes. The Indians came in with a 169, and LeMars tallied a 186. Max Brashear of ELC owned the low round at 39, while the Midgets also had scores of 40 from Corey Reeves, 42 by Tucker Milburn, and a 43 on the card of Logan Spoo. Spirit Lake was led by Scott Hummel with a 41, two 42’s from Matt Heaton and Trevor Caldwell, and a 44 by Corey Potter.
