1st Annual LeVar Woods Football Academy Off to Great Start

Several hundred admirers filled the SAMI Center in Spirit Lake Tuesday to participate in the opening events of the 1st Annual LeVar Woods Football Academy. The night belonged to former Hawkeye great and NFL Pro Bowler Dallas Clark. The tight end told his story of overcoming the death of his mother days prior to high school graduation at Twin River Valley High School, having to walk on at the University of Iowa and dealing with numerous injuries in pursuit of greatness. Clark was also able to raise money throughout the evening for his charity, which helps youth in northwest Iowa obtain a higher education. Prior to his speech, two dozen coaches turned out for a clinic featuring two of the brightest young minds at U of I. The LeVar Woods Football Academy opens its two-day camp at the Bedell Family YMCA this morning at 9:00. Youth in grades five through twelve can register beginning at 7:30.
