#14 Okoboji Girls Improve To 3-0

Class 3A #14 Okoboji improved to 3-0 on the season with a 66-37 victory at Harris-Lake Park on Thursday night. The Pioneers jumped to a quick 6-2 lead behind three pointers by Ella Stoll and Olivia Lorenzen and then built that lead to 13-4 at the end of the first quarter. Okoboji would push the lead to 33-14 at the break behind a smuggling defense and fast-break offense. Harris-Lake Park would not go away however, trimming that lead to 43-28 with 4:00 left in the 3rd quarter but the Pioneers would respond and go on a 6-0 run to end the frame with a 49-28 advantage. The fourth quarter saw all 16 Okoboji players get in the game and contribute as the Pioneers extended their lead and would not look back. Olivia Lorenzen led Okoboji with 16 points on 4-5 three pointers; Ella Stoll added 12 points and 6 rebounds; Carly Carstens added 9 points with 3 assists; Montana Wilson had 8 points and 8 rebounds and Makenna Helmers had 6 points, 5 rebounds and 4 steals. H-LP was led by Payton Reimers’ 15 points.

Comments From Head Coach John Adams
It’s great to start the season 3-0, and we’re really happy for this group with how hard they have worked. We shared the ball extremely well tonight, and when we guarded without fouling our defense really helped create offense. Olivia shot the ball extremely well, Ella had another good game scoring and rebounding, and Makenna played a great all-around game. Carly did a fantastic job giving us some energy off the bench and scored and passed really well. H-LP did a very good job sagging in on Montana and our girls did a nice job of not forcing things to her. Coach Rahe has them playing really hard and we knew they wouldn’t go away in the second half. We don’t have much time to enjoy this as we’ll head to MOC-FV tomorrow night for a big conference game.
