The Spirit Lake High School
football team has advanced to the semi-finals in the Class 2A Football
playoffs, as the Indians went up against top-ranked, unbeaten Boyden-Hull/Rock
Valley, last night, and beat the Nighthawks, 21-17, in Hull.
Senior running back Cody Poock scored all three of Spirit Lake’s
touchdowns. The first was on an 85-yard
scamper on the first play from scrimmage.
The second was on a 20-yard run in the second quarter.
The Indians led 14-3, at halftime, but surrendered that
advantage in the third quarter, as the Nighthawks were able to capitalize on
Spirit Lake turnovers, and take a 17-14 lead.
With 44 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter, Poock
caught a 17-yard touchdown pass, from quarterback Paul Brown, to give the
Indians their four point margin of victory, after they marched 84 yards for the
final score in a 7 minute, 50 second, fourth quarter drive.
