The Harris-Lake Park Girls Basketball team turned a four point first quarter lead into a 21 point halftime lead, as the Wolves outscored Trinity Christian, 24-7, in a decisive second quarter, and hung on to win 57-42, last night in Round One of Class 1A Regionals.
Noreen Morrow was one of three HLP players in double figures, as she led the Wolves with 18 points. Mariah Gath scored 12, and Macy Gunderson had 10.
Harris-Lake Park now advances to Round 2, as they will travel to Rock Rapids, Tuesday, for a matchup with Central Lyon. You can hear it on KUOO, with pre-game coverage underway at 6:45.
Elsewhere in Class 1A Regionals, the Clay Central-Everly girls topped Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire, 50-43 and will be at George Little Rock on Tuesday. West Bend Mallard beat Algona Garrigan 58-42 and will take on Storm Lake St. Mary’s as the Panthers beat Laurens Marathon 40-28.
The Harris-Lake Park Boys lost a close one, last night, in their regular season finale against Spencer, as they fell to the Tigers 51-49. Spencer senior Matthew Klemme banked in a go-ahead shot with 4 seconds remaining. Klemme led the Tigers with 23 points and 12 rebounds. Eli Ihnen scored 24 for HLP.
That’s Wolves’ coach Jeff Sohn, whose team will host the winner of Monday’s matchup between Sibley-Ocheydan and Clay Central-Everly, next Thursday. Spencer will finish its regular season, next Thursday, at home against Sioux City East.
The Emmetsburg boys closed out their regular season with a 60-53 win over Manson-Northwest Webster. They finished the season with 2 straight wins and finish the season at 5-16. They begin the postseason Monday at Sioux Central. The Emmetsburg girls lost to Manson 62-40 and finish 2-18 and will be at Pocahontas on Saturday in a 2A Regional
