Girls Basketball Regional Results from Feb. 9

The Spirit Lake Girls Basketball team got 27 points from senior K.J. Veldman, and 22 from senior Alissa Christoffer, as the Indians trounced Sheldon, 78-51, in the opening round of Class 3A Regionals. 

Reinking says there’s room for improvement 

That’s Indians’ Coach Rick Reinking, whose team will host Sioux Center, Wednesday in Round Two, as the Warriors knocked off Unity Christian, 45-27, last night.

Sioux Central held off a furious comeback attempt by Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn in Girls Class 2A Regional Basketball play on Saturday night in Sioux Rapids and picked up a 43-31 victory.  The Rebels led 14-7 after one and 20-13 at halftime. In the third quarter, they more than doubled their lead to 34-19 but with five minutes to play, the Hawks made their comeback attempt. HMS used Sioux Central turnovers and miscues to get the lead down to 39-31 with :47 left. The Rebels would convert though on their free throws and escape with the 12 point win. For Sioux Central, senior Hallie Ehlers had 15 points.

The Rebels are now 15-6 and play at Okoboji in Tuesday night. That contest can be heard on Q102. HMS was led by senior Jessica Stofferan’s 10 points. The Hawks graduate 5 seniors and finish their season at 10-12.
 

Estherville-Lincoln Central knocked off Algona, 45-32 in Class 3A Regionals.  Emmetsburg beat Pocahontas, 54-41, in Class 2A Regionals.  The E’hawks were led by Ashton Connelly with 26 points and 14 rebounds

ELC faces Hampton Dumont, Wednesday, in Algona.  Emmetsburg plays at North Union, Tuesday, in a game you can hear on Y100.
