Okoboji Tops HLP Baseball in Eight Innings

The Okoboji High School baseball team beat Harris-Lake Park, 4-3 in eight innings, last night, behind 14 strikeouts from pitcher Huston Hawkins.  Here’s his coach Rory Marra.

That’s Wolves Coach Jared Rahe, whose team fell to 0-2, and will face Sioux Central on Thursday.  HLP was led, last night, by Jordan Kyle, who went 2-for-3. 

Ben DeMuth went 2-for-3 for the Pioneers.  Holt Hunziker was 2-for-4 with an RBI.  Okoboji is now 2-1, and takes on Sheldon today at 5:30.

HLP would strike first scoring 2 runs in the 1st inning but would only score 1 more time in the fourth.  Okoboji scored 2 in the third inning, 1 in the 6th and 1 in the 8th inning to win.  The winning run in the 8th inning came on a sacrifice fly into left field which scored Alex Heller from third tagging up on the play.

HLP’s Eli Ihnen pitched 6 innings, gave up 3 runs (1 Earned), 6 hits, struck out 5 and walked 3 batters.  Colin Brons came in relief in the 7th inning and took the loss as the game was tied at 3.
