Spirit Lake Softball Holds Off E-Hawks, 3-2

The Spirit Lake High School softball team picked up its third win in a row, and second straight win over a ranked opponent, as the Indians held on to beat Emmetsburg, 3-2, last night.

That’s Indians Coach Rachel Gerking, whose team beat MOC-Floyd Valley 19-14 on Tuesday night, before taking a 3-0 lead into the seventh inning against the E-Hawks.  Spirit Lake allowed two runs in the final inning but hung on to get the win, which featured a fourth inning home run by freshman Mackenzie Thate.

The Indians are now 3-2, and are one the road, tonight, against Cherokee.  The Braves fell to Estherville-Lincoln Central, 9-1, last night.  Emmetsburg is now 1-2.  The E-Hawks are home, tonight, against Sioux Central.

 

Elsewhere, Okoboji fell to Sheldon, 14-6.  Spencer topped Storm Lake, 12-2 in 5 innings.  Trinity Christian beat GT/RA 13-1 and Newell Fonda beat Laurens Marathon 11-0.
