Spirit Lake Basketball Sweeps Emmetsburg

Girls 

The Spirit Lake girls opened up their second conference game after the Christmas break with a 14 – 5 lead after the 1st quarter against Emmetsburg on Tuesday night and would never look back in defeating the E’hawks 56 – 35.  Emmetsburg would outscore Spirit Lake 19 – 14 in the 3rd to go down by just 8 points heading into the 4th quarter.  Midway thru the 4th quarter, Emmetsburg got within 39 – 35 but Spirit Lake would clamp down and go on a 17 – 0 run to end the game and win by 21.  Spirit Lake had 8 different players score and had 3 players in double figures.  They were led by Emma Dau with 15 points, Joie Veldman with 12 and Carly Ites with 10 points.  Emmetsburg was led by Ashton Connelly with 11 points. 

Spirit Lake improves to 6 – 3, 5 – 1, and will be at the Tyson Events Center Saturday in the CNOS Tournament against Sioux City North.  Emmetsburg falls to 4 – 4, 3 – 2 and will host Cherokee on Friday on Y 100.
 

Boys 

It was a hot start for both teams in the boys contest as Spirit Lake and Emmetsburg traded buckets in the 1st quarter with Spirit Lake leading 17 – 15.  After that quarter, Spirit Lake would outscore Emmetsburg 56 – 21 the rest of the way in defeating the E’hawks 73 – 36.  Spirit Lake really pulled away in the 3rd quarter, outscoring Emmetsburg 20 – 4.  Spirit Lake would have 10 different players score and nearly had 6 in double figures.  They were led by Alec Henrickson with 14, Trevor Smith with 12, Alex Pringnitz with 10, Caleb Jennings and Billy Brown each with 9 and Sam Harms with 8 points.  Emmetsburg was led by Erick Drost with 11 points. 

Spirit Lake improves to 5 – 2, 4 – 2 and will be at Harris Lake Park on Thursday on Q 102.  Emmetsburg falls to 3 – 5, 1 – 4 and will host Cherokee on Friday on Y 100.
