Okoboji played host to Sioux Center in girls and boys basketball Friday night. In the girls contest, Sioux Center jumped out to a quick lead, and were up by as many as 14 before the Pioneers came storming back to trail by just 4 heading into the halftime break. The second half saw the Warriors stretch their lead to 10, but again the Pioneers came back, cutting the lead to 2 in the 4th quarter. In the end, Sioux Center was able to hit their free throws and go on the win the game 50-43. Okoboji was led by sophomore Emily Wintz, who came off the bench to score 10. Top scorer for Sioux Center was Jill Vander Plaats with 19. The Okoboji girls fall to 8-3, 7-3 in the Siouxland.
For the boys, Sioux Center scored early and often, putting up 30 on the Pioneers in just the first quarter. The Warriors kept the pressure on, and won going away 89-41. Holt Hunziker was best for Okoboji, scoring 14 while hitting 4 3 pointers. Tyeson Barnett added 10. Sioux Center was led by Alex Bakker with 20. Okoboji is now 1-9, and 1-8 in conference play. Next up for Okoboji is a double header on Friday at George Little Rock.
