Hinton scored three runs in the top half of the seventh to
come from behind and beat Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn 6-4 on Thursday night in
Hartley. The Hawks scored a run off a couple errors in the first. The Blackhawks
tied it up in the third and took a two run lead into the bottom of the fourth. H-M-S got one back in the fourth and then scored two runs to take the lead into
the bottom of the seventh. The contest could easily have been an even higher
scoring game as Hinton stranded seven base runners and the Hawks left five. Errors were also a big factor in the game as H-M-S committed five while the
Blackhawks committed seven.
Tessa DeRocher got the win for Hinton. She gave up four runs
(three earned) on three hits and struck out four. The Blackhawks were led by
Ashleigh Danke. She went 2-for-2 with a double, 2 RBI, and a run scored. She
also reached on an error. The Blackhawks are now 4-3 (3-2 War Eagle).
Krista Orthmann took the loss for H-M-S. She gave up six runs
(four earned) on four hits. She struck out one and walked four. Offensively,
Orthmann led the Hawks as well, going 1-for-3 with a double and 2 RBI. Kayla
Ackermann was 1-for-2 with a run scored. Katie Mills had a double and a run
scored. The Hawks fall to 3-2 (2-2 War Eagle). They will head outside of the
conference for a triangular Friday afternoon at George-Little Rock/Central Lyon
where they will face the Mustangs and Sioux Center.
