Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn won a wild 15-8 game at home against Unity Christian on
Monday night. Both starting pitchers struggled in the contest. The Knights
scored two quickly in the top of the first, but H-M-S scored 11 in the bottom
half of the inning thanks to a triple, a double, three singles, and six walks. Tessa Schoenhoven would last just a third of an inning before she was relieved
by Kennedy VanderWindt. She allowed just four runs the rest of the way.
After loading the bases in the top of the second, the Hawks also made a
pitching change as Krista Orthmann was relieved by Kaylen Kuchel. Kuchel gave
up just three runs on five hits the rest of the way and earned the win. She
struck out one and walked three. Unity Christian scored four of their runs in
the second and made things interesting in the fourth with a pair more to make it
11-8. H-M-S however got the insurance runs in the fifth and sixth to ensure the
victory.
Kayla Ackerman was 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored
for the Hawks. Orthmann was 2-for-2 with a walk and a run scored. Kuchel had a
triple and scored two runs. H-M-S is 9-8 (8-6 War Eagle). They host
