Three local athletes have been added to the Iowa Lakes Wrestling roster for the
2014-2015 season.
Blake Gjerde from Estherville, Austin Long
from Algona and Nick Schany from Graettinger.
“We are excited to add
these three to our roster and get them in the room to start working,” Alesch
stated.
Gjerde was a 2 time state qualifier and team captain for the
Midgets. Long was also a 2 time state qualifier along with being a captain for 3
years as a Bulldog. Both Blake and Austin will join the Lakers are weight class
157.
Schany will be transferring to Iowa Lakes from Iowa Western where he
competed in football last year. He was a 2 time state qualifier in high school-
earning second place as a senior. Nick will be joining the ranks at weight
174.
“These three individuals are going to bring more to our room then
just their wrestling abilities,” added Alesch. “They are great young men who
exemplify good character and strong leadership in all they do. Our staff will
ask these three to step up in other roles that typically freshman may not be
asking to serve, but we know they are capable of producing; they are just those
type of student athletes.”
