Dickinson Co. Conservation Board Holding Informational Program On Insects

April 16, 2025 Steve Schwaller

(Okoboji)– The Dickinson County Nature Center is hosting a fun, family-friendly insect-themed event on Saturday, April 26th from 10 a.m. to noon at the Maser Monarch Lodge. Dickinson County Conservation Board Community Relations Coordinator Amy Heibult says they are excited to host the Iowa State University Insect Zoo…

“They’ll have their setup in the large event room at the lodge and its a come and go style event that’s free to families. There’s gonna be the insect exhibits that will be set up so people can kind of wander through those and then we’ll also have some activity stations available for a variety of ages so there’s something for everybody there and whether you like insects up close or you can appreciate them from a distance we have some really fun things out there and we’re excited to be partnering with Iowa State for that.”

Heibult says there will be all sorts of creatures to see…

“There’s gonna be a few other creepy crawlies there like tarantulas and scorpions and a few other insects and it’s just a really good chance to get an up close encounter with these really awesome creatures and to learn about their ecological roles even in our local ecosystem here.”

Activity stations will also be present where youth can dig up some fun in the sensory area or make an insect-themed craft to take home. Families can pre-register for this free event by 5pm on  April 23rd by going to dickinsoncountyconservationboard.com
