(Jackson, Mn.)– A blood drive is coming up later this month in Jackson. Ken Versteeg of Community Blood Bank says they’ll be holding the event Thursday, April 17th from 8:00 am until 11:00 am at Sanford Jackson Medical Center…
“Community Blood Bank is actually owned by Sanford and Avera Health and we’re kind of a joint venture that comes together to provide blood to 43 local communities and Sanford Jackson is one of those. Sanford Worthington is another one, and then all of Sioux Falls. So basically in this area we provide all of the blood. This is a way for people to give back and make sure there’s enough blood on the shelves in order for local patients when they need it most, when traumas happen, tragedies happen, surgeries, that kind of thing, and the unexpected.”
Versteeg says they typically see an increase in demand for blood in the spring and summer months…
“Farmers are in the fields, we have heavy equipment on the roadways, more people are traveling and so then we also want to be little bit more prepared for accidents that take place. Unfortunately that’s what happens when people are moving around a little bit more.”
