The Pioneers traveled to Estherville Thursday night to open up a double header of tournament play against Sioux Central. Both teams competed to start the game with Sioux Central taking a 12-11 lead going into the second quarter. The Pioneers put a run together in the second quarter to take a 35-26 lead going into halftime. Sioux Central stormed back in the third quarter to tie the game, but Okoboji responded taking a 50-43 lead going into the final quarter of play. The game ended with a 71-58 Pioneer victory.
Lucas Lorenzen led the Pioneers with 26 points. Aidan Dahms contributed 16, Kaleb Peschong 13, Austin Harms and Mason Vander Pol both finished with 8. Sioux Central was led by Jacob Hargens 24 points. Carter Boettcher added 16. Okoboji will now play in the district final at Emmetsburg against ELC on Tuesday night. “We were really proud of the great team effort we had tonight. So many different guys stepped up for us in big moments throughout the game. We finished well around the rim and were willing to play tough defensively and take charges throughout the night. Aidan Dahms and Kaleb Peschong stepped up for us big time and both were difference makers. Lucas also gave us consistency around the rim tonight that we needed. We were proud of how we found ways to respond throughout the highs and lows of the game and put together a complete game tonight.”
