Area Linksters in Full Swing Tuesday (Updated 11:15AM)

Tuesday’s weather was not ideal for golf, but the Spencer boys did not let that stand between them and another triangular victory over Spirit Lake and LeMars. The Tigers fired a team total of 152, while the Indians and Bulldogs both had 169. Spencer’s Jay Monahan and Spirit Lake’s Matt Weeks went shot-for-shot to tie for medalist honors with even-par 36’s. Jordan Oltman of Spencer was a shot back at 37.

After a rough outing in the conference meet, the Harris-Lake Park boys golf team rebounded to defeat Ruthven-Ayrshire and Graettinger-Terril in a close triangular at Spencer Municipal. HLP shot a 173, led by Nathan Kyle’s four-over-par 40. G-T came in with a team total of 178 behind medalist Cody Dhyrkopp’s 38. And Ruthven-Ayrshire finished with a 189.

The Siouxland Conference took their tour meet for boys golf to Boyden Hull, where Okoboji continued to close in on conference leader MOC-Floyd Valley. The Pioneers 156 was eight strokes better than the Dutchmen, who still hold a two-point lead in the overall conference standings. Okoboji’s Matt Ohl was the medalist with a 36, and teammate Matt Baschke was the runner-up at 38.

In girls golf, many area teams participated in the Sibley-Ocheyedan Invite, and Spirit Lake outshot Okoboji 181 to 186 for the win. Kiley Wermersen of Okoboji carded a 39 for medalist honors, while Spirit Lake’s Maureen Owens was third with a 43 and Ashley Nielsen fourth with a 44.

Despite the rough weather yesterday the Harris-Lake Park girls golf team turned in their best effort of the spring season in a dual win over Ruthven-Ayrshire. The Lady Wolves 223 team total beat their previous high water mark by 13 shots, and also topped the Lady Raiders total of 236. Sam Brueggeman’s 49 was the best of the meet, while Ruthven-Ayrshire’s Kayle Dyer was runner-up with a 53.
