Spirit Lake, Spencer Grab Lakes Golf Titles

The Lakes Conference was able to get both their boys and girls golf meets played Monday despite the weather. On the girls side, Spirit Lake dominated with a team total of 360 for their third consecutive conference title. Emmetsburg came in second with a 382, while Spencer finished third, LeMars fourth, Cherokee fifth, Estherville Lincoln Central sixth, Storm Lake seventh and Western Christian eighth. Jannah Hoch of Emmetsburg won the meet with an 83, while the Indians had four of the next five spots. Maureen Owens shot an 84 to finish runner up, Ashley Nielson took third with a 91, Anna Hoss came in fifth after shooting a 92 and Leah Hilpiper had a 93. All four players finished with first team all-conference honors.

Spencer came away with the team title at the boys meet held at Brooks National. The Tigers team total of 308 was 13 shots better than second place Cherokee. Estherville Lincoln Central came in third, Emmetsburg fourth, Storm Lake fifth, LeMars sixth, Western Christian seventh and Spirit Lake eighth. Spencer’s Jay Monahan and Cherokee’s Matt Pitts tied at 75 for medalist honors. Three other Tigers finished in the top ten, while Spirit Lake was paced by Matt Weeks’ 78, tying him for sixth individually and earning him a place on the all-conference first team.
