A trip to state was on the line Friday in the boys District golf meets, and Okoboji fell one stroke shy of qualifying as a team in the Class 2A meet in Fort Dodge. The Pioneers team total of 310 was good for third place behind Eagle Grove’s 308 and Unity Christian’s 309. However, leading the way for Okoboji was Caden Thurgood, who’s individual round of 73 was good for runner up honors and earns him a trip to the state meet in Panora next Friday and Saturday. In Class 3A, the Spencer Tigers will be making the trip to state as a team, after shooting a team total of 311 to win the District title. Spirit Lake’s Matt Weeks fell a shot away from qualifying as an individual with his round of 76 in Storm Lake. The Class 3A championships will be held in Rhodes later next week.
