Some good news yesterday from the Iowa High School Athletic Board of Control, pertaining to one local golfer’s postseason aspirations. Spirit Lake junior Matt Weeks had his appeal upheld following a disqualification at the Class 3A Sectional meet in Spencer last week Friday. Weeks was the meet medalist with a 1-under par 71, but was incorrectly disqualified based on misinformation concerning a practice round played the day before. That round was later deemed appropriate by the state board, as well as the Spirit Lake Schools administration. Matt, who a state tournament qualifier last year, now will play as an individual qualifier at the district meet to be held in Storm Lake on Friday. If Matt finishes in the top four at the district meet, he will advance for his second trip to the state 3A meet to be held at the Harvester golf course outside of Des Moines.
