Indians Softball Falls at Newell Fonda, While Okoboji and Emmetsbug Notch Wins

On the softball diamond, the Indians were unable to make it three straight wins to start the season, as Spirit Lake lossed 9-0 at second-ranked Newell Fonda. The game remained relatively close at 3-0 through five innings. Cara Vale struck out five and allowed ten hits as she took her first loss. Spirit Lake will travel to Harris-Lake Park this evening, a game you can hear on Q102 beginning at about 6:45 with the pregame.

Okoboji put a beating on Sioux Center in a 16-1 lopsided victory that saw the Pioneers score 14 runs in the second inning. Keely Bracelin was the winning pitcher.

Emmetsburg is ranked second in Class 2A and the EHawks are 1-0 to start their season following last night’s 6-2 win over West Hancock. Madison Woodruff earned the win behind a 15 strikeout performance, which kept the EHawks in the game until they put up a four-spot in the fourth to assume the lead for good.
