Wolves Rally for Baseball Win Over Pioneers, Okoboji Routs HLP in Softball

The Harris-Lake Park Wolves have their first win of the 2010 baseball season, and it came in come-from-behind fashion in a 9-7 decision against county rival Okoboji. H-LP trailed 7-0 after the Pioneers plated six runs on four hits and two errors in the top of the second. However, the Wolves chipped away and trailed by just three heading into the fifth. After shortstop Colin Brons turned a 6-4 double play to end a scoring threat in the top half, Harris-Lake Park then batted around in the bottom half. The first three batters of the inning reached and scored on two hits and an error, then Eli Ihnen provided the big two-RBI single to right to break away from a 7-7 tie. Connor Gunderson earned the win in relief of starter Eli Ihnen. The two combined to hold the Pioneers to just two hits in the games final five innings as H-LP moves to 1-2. Tate Hanson was the losing pitcher for Okoboji, who is now 1-3.

The Wolves and Pioneers also battled it out on the softball diamond, only this time it was Okoboji coming out on top with a 16-2 win in five innings. Kiley Wermersen went 2-for-4 with four RBI and two runs scored. Starting pitcher Keely Bracelin left the game after two innings with an injury. The Pioneers are now 5-1 on the season.

Spirit Lake was rained out of their game in Alta against the Cyclones.
