The Spirit Lake Indians closed the first half on a 10-2 run to take a seven-point lead into the break on LeMars and the Indians would not look back from there. Mary Brown scored 14 and Chelsie Stettnichs added 11 as Spirit Lake downed the Bulldogs 43-32 on Friday. The Indians and Bulldogs exchanged the lead 10 times in the first 21 points until the Spirit Lake spurt to close the half. The Bulldogs used a 7-0 run to cut the lead down to six in the 3rd quarter, however, the Indians would score another 10-0 run to extend the lead out to 16 in the 4th quarter. The win is the fifth straight for Spirit Lake (14-3, 8-2 Lakes Conference). With wins by Storm Lake over Hull Western Christian and Estherville-Lincoln Central over Emmetsburg, the Indians remain in 3rd place. Storm Lake is now 10-0, Estherville-Lincoln Central is 9-1. Spirit Lake takes on 3A-10th ranked Storm Lake on Tuesday.
BOYS
Spirit Lake trailed by four after one quarter, but a 13-0 start to the 2nd for LeMars put the Bulldogs ahead 17 and the visitors cruised to a 70-58 win on Friday. The Indians trailed by as many as 22 points but scored 19 of the final 28 to make it a 12-point final. Spirit Lake got 18 from Kyle Heidebrink who went 11-13 at the foul line while Drew Dau added 10. The Bulldogs put four in double figures, getting half their points from their bench. The Indians lost Mitch Peschon in the 2nd quarter to a high ankle sprain and the junior is listed as day-to-day for Spirit Lake (6-10, 1-8 Lakes Conference) as the Indians get set for a Tuesday matchup at Storm Lake.
