Pioneers Take Two Classes, Finish Fifth in Siouxland Tourney

The Siouxland Conference wrestling tournament was held on Tuesday night and Sheldon/South O’Brien, the team favorite came away with the league championship. Okoboji finished 5th behind Sibley-Ocheyedan, Central Lyon/George-Little Rock, and Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley. “We certainly had higher expectations going into the conference tournament this season,” said Head Coach Justin Bouse. “Simply from the place finish perspective it is disappointing, but when I look at the individual efforts, it’s hard to be too disappointed.” Individually, the Pioneers took a pair of titles with both Dustin Schwaller (285 lbs.) and Doug Schwaller (215) notched pins in their finals matches. Tanner Taylor (135) took 2nd while Kris Kaufman (152) and Zach Jones (160) placed 3rd.

Bouse added, “We still have some work to do, but there is still a few days to improve.” The Pioneers now gear up to host Saturday’s sectional meet.
