The race for the Lakes Conference softball title remains tight between Estherville-Lincoln Central and second-ranked Emmetsburg. The Midgets stayed in the hunt with a 7-2 win over Spirit Lake on Thursday. After the Indians plated two in the fourth to get on the board first, E-LC scored seven combined in the fifth and sixth innings on ten hits. Cara Vale took the loss, while Brooke Egeland earned the win. Spirit Lake is now 18-12 on the season and 4-9 in the Lakes. The Midgets improve to 15-9 overall and 9-2 in conference. The EHawks stayed game ahead in the loss column with a narrow 1-0 win over Cherokee on Senior Night. Emmetsburg’s Alex Lock drove in the game’s lone run in the first inning. Maddison Woodruff struck out twelve and allowed four hits in the win, which puts Emmetsburg at 12-1 in the Lakes.
