On the softball field, it was Emmetsburg that came away with the shutout win. The second-ranked EHawks blanked the Indians 14-0 in five innings behind a one-hitter from Madison Woodruff. Alli Gerking recorded the lone hit for Spirit Lake, which is now 2-7 in the Lakes Conference. Emmetsburg is 8-1 and can be heard tonight taking on the rival Spencer Tigers on Y100, beginning at approximately 6:45pm. Spirit Lake hits the road to play Cherokee.
Okoboji kept pace in the Siouxland Conference with a hard fought 2-0 shutout of Sheldon. The Pioneers notched the winning runs in the fifth, as Makenzie Anderson drove in the lone RBI. Keely Bracelin struck out ten and allowed just three hits for the win. Coach Dennis Baschke credits his two seniors, Anderson and Bracelin, for getting the win on Senior Night. The victory puts the Pioneers at 9-2 in conference play, which keeps meaningful games on the horizon. Okoboji hosts its annual tournament that runs today through Saturday.
Also last night, Estherville-Lincoln Central topped Cherokee 12-0 in four innings, and Armstrong-Ringsted snuck past Clay Central-Everly 7-6.
