Plenty of softball action from Thursday night, and no player had a bigger night than Spirit Lake’s Paige Krause. The freshman set a school record with nine runs batted in on 4-for-4 hitting. Krause opened the game with a first inning grand slam in a 16-5 win over Cherokee in five innings. She also would hit a three run homer, an RBI single and an RBI double. Cara Vale was the winning pitcher for the Indians, who are now 3-7 in the Lakes Conference. They will begin play in the Spencer Tournament today.
Last night on Y100, Emmetsburg and Spencer renewed pleasantries, and the EHawks would come away with another shutout victory, this time 6-0 behind a second consecutive one-hitter by Madison Woodruff. The hurler also recorded eight strikeouts. Emmetsburg is now 9-1 in conference, while the Tigers fall to 3-7.
Okoboji began hosting their 12-team softball tourney yesterday with a full slate of games. Some of the results included the host Pioneers defeating Graettinger-Terril 7-0 and Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn 7-4. Harris-Lake Park suffered two setbacks, falling 13-1 to Sheldon and 15-2 to Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley. Sibley-Ocheyedan defeated Sioux Central 10-5 and Spalding Catholic 6-5, and H-M-S outpaced G-T 7-1. The tournament will take a break today before resuming with four games at 9:00am on Saturday.
Tonight we have a doubleheader of high school baseball on the airwaves. On Q102 and at ExploreOkoboji.com you can hear the Okoboji Pioneers as they travel to Sibley-Ocheyedan to battle the Generals. Then on Y100, it’s the boys turn as the Spencer Tigers take on the Emmetsburg EHawks. Both broadcasts will begin at approximately 7:15 with the pregame shows.
