The Okoboji Pioneers baseball team can thank Mother Nature for their most recent setback in the Siouxland Conference. Trailing Sibley-Ocheyedan on the road 6-4 entering the top of the seventh, the Pioneers rallied to score six runs before last night’s lightning, tornadoes, rains and hail forced the game to be canceled. Iowa rules state you must used the score from the last completed inning, thus the Generals came out on top 6-4. The Generals scored five runs in the first two innings on five hits and an error. Jacob Bos drove in two, while Jacob Laveman had an RBI and a run scored. Okoboji received two RBI from Brian Dubois, and a run scored and one driven in by Keith Oskvig. Zach Jones took the loss, with Tucker Herzberg going down as the winning pitcher. The Pioneers are now 4-6 in the Siouxland, while Sibley-Ocheyedan ends an eight-game losing streak to improve to 2-10 in league play.
At the Spencer girls softball tournament, Spirit Lake came away with two more W’s. The Indians defeated Denison-Schleswig 4-1, with Paige Krause as the winning pitcher and Cara Vale getting the save. Vale later earned a win in Spirit Lake’s 5-0 defeat of George-Little Rock.
