Destructive storms halted Saturday’s Class 2A District Final baseball game in Spirit Lake as the Indians and the Sheldon Orabs were tied at five in the bottom of the seventh. Play was stopped initially due to lightning, one out into the bottom half of the last inning, and the storms left the field unplayable to pick up the action after the storm. Both teams scored runs in the first inning, then Sheldon broke it open in the fourth. The Orabs plated four runs, three of which came on a home run by Brady Ogle. Down 5-1, Spirit Lake began to chip away. They scored a run in the third, then two in the fourth on solo home runs by Casey Jones and Nik Erickson, making it 5-4. In the sixth inning, Jones reached on a leadoff walk, and as he tried to advance to third on a passed ball, the Sheldon catcher made a wild throw to third allowing Jones to hustle in and tie the game. The game stopped with freshman Paul Brown at bat facing a 0-2 count with nobody on and one away. The game resumes Monday night in Spirit Lake at 7pm and can be heard on KUOO and live at ExploreOkoboji.com. The winner advances to play Cherokee Tuesday night at Substate in Sheldon.
