Indians CC Continues Impressive Start

Several area high school cross country teams competed at the Estherville-Lincoln Central Invitational Tuesday night and the top-ranked Spirit Lake Indians finished atop the points standings in the boys competition. Spirit Lake tallied 49 points, finishing 20 points ahead of second place Algona. Spencer ended the day in third place, Okoboji fifth, and Emmetsburg seventh. Individually, Alec Baldwin came away with a runner-up finish after running a time of 16:48, while teammate Will Norris was right behind in third place. Keith Byers was also in the top-five and Kyle Anderson made the top-15. Okoboji’s Joe Hilsabeck was the Pioneers’ lone top-20 finisher at 18:27.

In the girls competition, Spirit Lake finished third behind Humboldt and Algona. Spencer came in fourth, Estherville-Lincoln Central/Armstrong-Ringsted fifth, Okoboji sixth, and Emmetsburg eighth. KJ Veldman led the pace for the Indians with a time of 15:16, good for third place individually. Bryanna Brunsvold earned a seventh place finish, Dondi Schmidt 16th, and Jessie Kabele 19th. Second-place belonged to Okoboji’s budding star Clare Eckard, who finished in 15:16.
