Indians, Pioneers Fall, While Wolves Roll (Volleyball RoundUp)

In front of a raucous home crowd, the Spirit Lake Indians were unable to come up with a Lakes Conference win during Homecoming week, falling in a three-game sweep to LeMars, 25-14, 25-23, 25-16. Senior Holly Seemann powered in seven kills and two aces, while Kendra Stokke registered six kills. Whitney Berkland finished with 15 assists and nine digs. LeMars senior Kirstie Ruhland dropped in double-digit kills to spoil the Senior Night and Homecoming festivities for Spirit Lake. The Indians are now 11-6 overall and 2-1 in conference.

Elsewhere in the Lakes Conference, Spencer dropped a four-game match to Cherokee 25-22, 25-14, 15-25, 25-21, and Western Christian defeated Storm Lake, 25-10, 25-5, 25-8, to improve to 21-1.

Okoboji was on the road Thursday night taking on George-Little Rock in Siouxland Conference play, and the Pioneers dropped a four-game match, 25-10, 22-25, 25-18, 25-23. Bryanna Wittrock notched a double-double of thirteen digs and ten kills, to go along with five aces. Mikkinzie Peschong paced Okoboji with 14 kills, while Aubry Kolegraff had 35 assists and eleven digs, and Mary Eckard finished with thirteen digs. The Pioneers are now 7-10 on the season and 1-2 in league play.

Harris-Lake Park notched two conference victories last night, defeating WCLT in five games, 17-25, 25-22, 25-14, 18-25, 15-8, and followed it up with a three-game sweep of Twin River Valley, 25-17, 25-11, 25-13. Amanda Hibma served her way to a remarkable ten aces. Lydia Brandt had 20 kills, six aces and four blocks. Freshman Noreen Morrow tallied 16 kills and five blocks. Sam Brueggeman came away with a team-high 36 digs and four aces, and Macy Gunderson dished out 37 assists. The Wolves improve to 3-1 in the Cornbelt Conference and 16-7 on the year.

The Knights of Graettinger-Terril secured another Cornbelt Conference win, taking down three-games-to-one, 25-12, 23-25, 25-23, 25-19. Nikki Brown led the charge with 20 kills, 14 digs, and six aces. Lindsay Flaharty had 17 assists and seven digs.
