A former member of the Iowa Hawkeye coaching staff has been named the new softball coach at Iowa Lakes Community College.
Shane Bouman comes to Iowa Lakes following three seasons with the Hawkeyes, where he was a pitching coach and recruiting coordinator.
During his stint at Iowa, the Hawkeyes posted a 109-59 record and qualified for the NCAA Tournament in two of his three seasons.
Before going to Iowa, Bouman served as head coach at South Dakota State University for six seasons. During those six seasons, Bouman guided nine players to Division I All-Independent teams; seven players to Division I All-Academic teams; and, coached an ESPN Academic All-American honoree. During Bouman’s tenure, the Jackrabbits set school records for career home runs, stolen bases, RBI and sacrifices. He is also the winningest coach in SDSU school history.
Troy Larson, Athletics Director at Iowa Lakes, says the softball program is in great shape and he expects it to stay competitive at the national level.
“Shane is a proven winner at the highest level,” said Larson. “He is a great recruiter who recruits the right type of student athlete. I’m very excited to get such a high level coach at Iowa Lakes Community College.”
Bouman takes over a program that finished third nationally last season, and says he wants to build on that success.
“Coach Bosch has built a program that has championship expectations every year, and I look forward to building on that established success,” said Bouman. “Iowa Lakes has a friendly hometown feeling that is exactly what my family was looking for, and I want to thank Iowa Lakes for the opportunity to be the softball coach.”
