Indians, Pioneers Among Competitors at Algona CC Invite

The second-ranked boys cross country team from Spirit Lake proved their metel against a tough field Monday at the Algona Invite, coming away with a meet title. The Indians’ 84 points was three better than second-place Fairmont. Alec Baldwin ran to a second-place finish with a time of 15:58, and teammate Will Norris was right behind in third at 16:14. Keith Byers came away with a seventh-place finish, and Kyle Anderson was 30th. Also in the boys race, Spencer was fifth, Okoboji 13th and Emmetsburg 14th. The Pioneers were paced by Chris Albright (55th) and Taylor Cody (58th).

The Spirit Lake girls ended the night in third-place overall, behind Fairmont and Humboldt. Two Indians earned top-ten finishes, as Brianna Brunsvold was sixth at 15:50 and KJ Veldman was seventh. Dondi Schmidt (31st) and Jessie Kabele (34th) also had successful nights. The Spencer Tigers were also fifth in the girls race, Estherville-Lincoln Central/Armstrong-Ringsted was seventh, Okoboji 13th, and Emmetsburg 15th. Pacing the Pioneers was freshman Clare Eckard, running a time of 16:14 to finish 13th individually.
