Indians Take 5th at Invite, Pioneers 20th (Wrestling RoundUp)

Several area wrestling teams competed at the 41st Annual Herb Irgens Invitational, a two-day tournament hosted by Battle Creek/Ida Grove. As a team, Spirit Lake Park finished in fifth place with 123.5 points. Right on the Indians heels was Graettinger-Terril in sixth place, Sibley-Ocheyedan tied for eleventh with Twin River Valley, Emmetsburg/Ruthven-Ayrshire came away with an 18th place finish, and Okoboji was 20th. Individually for the Indians, Doug Miner was runner-up at 103 lbs, Zach Skopec took third at 112 lbs, Rick Maris earned a fifth-place finish at 152 lbs, David Trucksess was sixth at 125 lbs, and both Dylan Bryce at 130 lbs and Andrew Brooks at 215 lbs finished the weekend in seventh. For Okoboji, Tanner Taylor was runner up at 152 lbs and Zach Jones seventh at 160 lbs.

Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn hosted their annual round-robin wrestling invitational over the weekend. Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley went 5-0 to claim the team title ahead of the Hawks, who went 4-1. HMS beat Western Christian 46-24, fell to Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley 42-21, and then went on to defeat West Monona by nine, Alta/Aurelia by 38, and Sioux Central/Laurens-Marathon by 33.
