Indians Rule 2A Wrestling Sectional, Pioneers Advance Three in 1A (Wrestling RoundUp)

Spirit Lake Park dominated the Class 2A Sectional wrestling tournament on their home mats Saturday, taking the overall team title and crowning six champions. SLP tallied 239.5 points, followed by Estherville-LC with 173.5, meaning both with compete in the team dual tournament Tuesday in Algona. Taking sectional titles for the Indians were Doug Miner (103), Zach Skopec (112), Isaac Lundgren (125), Dylan Bryce (130), Mark Norland (140), and Rick Maris (145). Two others, David Trucksess (135) and Andrew Broocks (215), qualified for Districts in Sheldon with runner-up finishes.
The Midgets will send six wrestlers to Districts, two of which won their weight classes this weekend.

The Class 1A Sectional wrestling tournament in Milford saw the Graettinger-Terril Knights cruise to a team title and the hometown Pioneers qualify three grapplers for Districts. Zach Jones survived a challenging bracket at 160 to grab a sectional title, while teammates Tanner Taylor (152) and Colby Kranninger (112) advanced as runners-up. Graettinger-Terril notched 181.5 overall points to qualify for Tuesday’s Dual tournament at Emmetsburg, and the E-Hawks will join them, finishing second with 165 points. Third-ranked Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn fell short of advancing by 30 points.
Sibley-Ocheyedan took fourth place and Okoboji fifth. Saturday’s District meet at Sibley will feature nine qualifiers from G-T, five from Emmetsburg/Ruthven-Ayrshire, five from HMS, and two for the Generals.
