Tuesday’s cool, wet weather didn’t hold some high school teams from hitting the links. The Spirit Lake girls golf team shot a 185 to take down rival Estherville-Lincoln Central in a Lakes Conference match at Okoboji View Golf Course. The Midgets finished with a 226 team total. Leah Hilpipre was the meet medalist with a personal-best 40, and teammate Maureen Owens was runner-up at 45. The Indians also counted a 49 by Whitney Berkland and a 51 from Emily Ayres.
The Siouxland Conference tour found the boys teams playing at MOC-Floyd Valley’s home track, and it paid off for the Dutch, who shot a 156 to place first. Rock Valley was a dozen strokes back in second. Sibley-Ocheyedan wound up in fourth (171) and the Okoboji Pioneers were fifth (172). The Pioneers were paced by Tyler Ohl’s 40, and also counted a 42 by James Halbur, Weston Burgeson’s 44 and Micah Baschke’s 46. The meet medalist was Jordy Reinders of MOC-Floyd Valley with a 38. The Dutch lead the Siouxland Conference standings by six points, with Sibley-Ocheyedan and Okoboji a point apart in second and third, respectively.
The Siouxland girls competed in Rock Rapids for their tour meet and again the Dutch were on top of the team standings with a 179. Sioux Center finished in second (192), Okoboji was third with a 197, and Sibley-Ocheyedan finished seventh (218). Hannah Jones led the Pioneers with a 43, good for runner-up honors. Kristina Kaiser carded a 48, Kiley Wermersen a 49, and Halee Morrow a 57. Meet medalist was Jessica Locker of MOC-Floyd Valley with a 39.
