Low Scores Highlight Area Golf Action (High School Golf RoundUp)

On the golf course, Spirit Lake was ten shots shy of Spencer in a boys triangular at Brooks National. The Tigers fired a 158 team total, with the Indians shooting a 168 and Sheldon in third at 198. Meet medalist was Jay Monahan of Spencer with a 35 and teammate Zach Carlson was runner-up at 36. The Indians were led by Matt Weeks’ round of 38. They also counted a 41 from Scott Hummel, a 44 by Zach Skopec and a 53 by Trevor Caldwell.

The Spirit Lake girls swung their sticks at a triangular in Spencer and won in resounding fashion. The Indians 178 team score was 16 strokes better than the Tigers’ 194. Sheldon finished at 221. Seniors Maureen Owens and Leah Hilpipre tied for medalist honors with rounds of 40. Whitney Berkland carded a 43 and Lindsay Hamilton counted a 55.

Harris-Lake Park’s girls golf team also notched a victory Friday night, defeating Cornbelt Conference rival North Sentral Kossuth/Armstrong-Ringsted, 228-244. Sam Brueggeman earned medalist honors with a 52 and Macy Gunderson’s 55 tied her for second. The Lady Wolves also had round of 56 from Mariah Gath and Rachel Vellema checked in with a 62.

In other golf action, Emmetsburg’s boys won a triangular over Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire and West Bend-Mallard. The E-Hawks had 166. G-T/R-A was third at 196. Ben McCain paced Emmetsburg and was the medalist with a 38. Tanner Naig was high scorer for the Knights with a 44.
