Just one point separated first and second place in the boys competition at the Siouxland Conference track and field meet Thursday in Sioux Center. In the end, the Okoboji Pioneers were crowned the 2011 conference champs, finishing with 99 team points, and edging out MOC-Floyd Valley (98). Sibley-Ocheyedan wound up ninth (34). Individual champions for the Pioneers included, Brian Dubois in the high jump (6’2”), Zach Jones in the 110m high hurdles (15.27) and the 400m hurdles (56.77), as well as the relay teams in the shuttle hurdle (Dubois, Alex Koepp, Dalton Syverson, Jones – 1:00.56), the distance medley (Gabe Goehring, Syverson, Dubois, Austin Millard – 3:44.5), and the 4×400 relay (Millard, Dubois, Chris Albright, Jones – 3:30.48). Okoboji also registered three second place finishes.
Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley took the Siouxland Conference crown in girls track and field, tallying 121 points. MOC-Floyd Valley was second (117), Sibley-Ocheyedan third (94), and Okoboji finished seventh (41). The Pioneers lone first place finisher was the 4x200m relay team, which ran a time of 1:50.05. Okoboji received silver medals in the 4x100m (52.61) and sprint medley (1:55.63) relays.
