A former Laker wrestling graduate assistant has been named Head Wrestling Coach at Iowa Lakes Community College. Corey Van Groll was selected for the position of Head Wrestling Coach and Housing Coordinator, where he looks to build on what former coach Ty Eustice started.
“I learned a great deal from Coach Eustice. Serving at his side over the past two years has been a great learning process, one that has helped prepare me for this opportunity,” said Coach Van Groll. “I feel honored to be the next head wrestling coach and I’m optimistic Iowa Lakes Wrestling will have much success in the future.
Van Groll holds a degree in fitness management from the University of Wisconsin-Parkside, and is near completion of a Master’s degree, which he is obtaining through Iowa State University in conjunction with his graduate assistant position at Iowa Lakes.
Troy Larson, Athletics Director at Iowa Lakes, is looking forward to Van Groll continuing to build on the successes of past seasons. “Corey has a tremendous work ethic and enthusiasm for the sport of wrestling. He is a great role model for our young men. He will continue to build upon what Coach Eustice and Iowa Lakes have accomplished over the past couple of years,” said Larson.
Van Groll already has plans in mind for next season as well. “We have a great team returning and I am looking forward to working with them,” said Van Groll. “I also plan on recruiting the very best student athletes possible.”
Along with his leadership duties as the Head Wrestling Coach, he will assume the position of housing coordinator, with duties ranging from enforcing housing policies and promoting healthy lifestyles, to meeting with students to solve conflicts when necessary.
