The Okoboji softball team used an eleven run fifth inning to claim a 12-2 non-conference win over county rival Harris-Lake Park in Milford Tuesday. HLP led 2-1 after scoring runs in the second and third, however, the Pioneers took advantage of six hits and two Wolves errors to send 15 batters to the plate in the decisive fifth inning. Maggie Rohlk finished with four hits, three RBI, and a run scored. Sydney Boeckholt picked up the win allowing two runs, one earned, on six hits in five innings of work. The Wolves received base hits by six different batters, with Lydia Brandt and Mariah Gath scoring the two runs. Macy Gunderson allowed eight runs, five earned, through four-plus innings to take the loss. HLP drops to 1-2 on the season. The Pioneers, who have scored 45 runs in their last four games, are now 4-1 and host conference foe Sheldon on Wednesday. That game can be heard live on Q102 beginning at approximately 6:45pm.
The Spirit Lake softball team kept their perfect start to the season going Tuesday with a 2-0 win over Alta-Aurelia, the third-ranked team in Class 2A. Cara Vale pitched her way to the win and the shutout, scattering six hits and striking out a pair. The junior also knocked in a run, as did sophomore Paige Krause. The Indians are now 4-0 and will open Lakes Conference play Wednesday at Western Christian.
In other area softball action, Emmetsburg pounded out a 16-3 win in five innings over Pocahontas. Central Lyon/George-Little Rock earned a 6-3 victory over Sheldon
