Spirit Lake Park-Okoboji found themselves in uncharted territory simply by qualifying for boys Class 2A state soccer tournament in Des Moines. Friday’s state semifinal berth meant yet another accomplishment to check off the list, though making the championship game remained the primary focus. And SLP-O nearly pulled it off against perennial power Norwalk. Scoreless for the games first 39 minutes, Drew Brevik was able to punch the ball through the goal with a host of Warriors surrounding him to put Spirit Lake Park-Okoboji ahead 1-0 just 32 seconds before the half. It remained that way until Adam Jones of Norwalk completed a remarkable minute of individual soccer. The junior connected on the equalizer with 13:37 remaining, then managed to find the next again at the 12:45 mark to give the Warriors the lead for good. Spirit Lake Park-Okoboji will play Saturday at 1:30pm in the consolation game against Dubuque Wahlert, which lost 1-0 in overtime to top-ranked Xavier, Cedar Rapids. That game will be carried live on Q102 and at ExploreOkoboji.com starting around 1:15pm.
