A late five run rally in the bottom of the seventh was not enough Wednesday night as the Spirit Lake baseball team dropped a 9-6 decision to Spencer in Lakes Conference play. The Tigers built a nine-run advantage through the games first five innings before the Indians bats woke up. Dillon Schulz was the hot bat for Spencer, with two hits, three RBI, and two runs scored, while Mitch Peschon and Tyler Dean led the way for the Indians. The win puts Spencer at 2-1 in league action, while Spirit Lake drops to 3-1. The Indians will welcome Okoboji to town on Thursday for matchup of Dickinson County rivals. Elsewhere around the area, Storm Lake pounded on Estherville-Lincoln Central, taking down the Midgets 18-0 in four innings. The Tornadoes are also 3-1.
And in the War Eagle Conference, South O’Brien got the best of rival Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn in the tight 3-1 ballgame. The Hawks have now lost two games in league play.
