HMS Runs Away From HLP, Spirit Lake Dominated ELC, Okoboji Defeats S-O (Baseball RoundUp)

Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn turned an early four-run deficit into a lopsided 17-5 win at Harris-Lake Park in non-conference baseball on Monday. HLP struck early with a run in the first and three in the second, however, the Hawks would tally 17 runs on 15 hits over the next three frames to walk away with the win. Greg Hegstad was a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with three runs scored and three driven in. The senior also limited the Wolves to six hits and struck out four as the winning pitcher. Cody Leng notched three hits, three runs, and an RBI. Matt Queck drove in four and scored once, and Brett Flynn crossed the plate three times with a RBI. The Hawks improve to 8-5 overall and host Clay Central-Everly on Tuesday. Harris-Lake Park received a three-RBI night from Brennan Krogman, while Kade Heikens drove in a pair and scored once. Eli Ihnen took the loss in three innings of work. The Wolves drop to 1-6 this season and welcome Pocahontas to Lake Park this evening.

A lead-off home run by senior Tyler Dean, his team-leading fourth of the season, got the Spirit Lake Indians off an running to an 11-0 win over Estherville-Lincoln Central in five innings. Dean finished the game 3-for-3 at the plate as part of balanced offensive attack. Spirit Lake is now 4-1 in the Lakes Conference and 11-2 overall. The Midgets are 4-9 this year and 1-6 in the league.

Okoboji continues to play well in the Siouxland Conference, securing an 11-5 win over Sibley-Ocheyedan on Monday. The Pioneers recorded ten base hits and were walked nine times in getting the win. Okoboji is now 7-7 on the season and 4-1 in the conference. The Generals got two-hit nights from Tyler O’Connor and Jacob Seivert, with O’Connor and Ethan Stofferan both driving in a pair of runs. Sibley-Ocheyedan drops to 1-6 overall and 1-4 in the Siouxland.
