The Okoboji baseball team let a narrow lead slip away defensively Thursday in a 4-3 loss to Central Lyon in Milford. The Pioneers led 2-1 entering the sixth, when the Lions took advantage of two hits and three errors to plate three runs and take a 4-2 advantage. Okoboji plated one in the seventh, but left the tying run stranded on second. Zach Jones was 3-for-4 with a run scored and one driven in. He also struck out six and surrendered eight hits and no earned runs as the game’s losing pitcher. Brian Dubois was 3-for-3 with a walk and a RBI, and Weston Burgeson had two base hits and drove in a run. Okoboji falls to 4-5 in the conference and 7-12 overall. They host Sibley-Ocheyedan for a Siouxland Conference game on Friday. That game will be broadcast live on Q102 and at ExploreOkoboji.com.
Spirit Lake ventured out-of-conference to battle seventh-ranked Clay Central-Everly on Thursday, and the Indians pulled out a 6-0 win at home. The Indians, who were out-hit 5-4 by the Mavericks, scored four runs in the fourth to break a scoreless tie, then followed up with two more in the fifth on a home run. Spirit Lake has a 15-5 mark this season and hosts Cherokee on Friday.
Over in the Lakes Conference, Spencer earned a 4-1 win over the rival E-Hawks of Emmetsburg. The game was locked up at one until Spencer scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth to improve to 6-3 in the league and 10-5 overall. Emmetsburg is 0-9 in the Lakes and 4-12 this season.
Also, Estherville Lincoln Central held on for a narrow 9-8 win over Western Christian.
