Wolves Sweep Mavs, While Indians, Pioneers Lose Big (Softball RoundUp)

Harris-Lake Park earned wins number four and five in Cornbelt Conference play with a doubleheader sweep over Clay Central-Everly on Monday. The first contest ended in three innings with a 14-2 Wolves victory. Mariah Gath had the only two hit game and scored two runs. Lydia Brandt, Noreen Morrow, Emily Anderson and Grace Winters each drove in a pair, as the Wolves took advantage of nine bases on balls. Freshman Macy Gunderson pitched to the win. The nightcap went the full seven innings for a 9-2 HLP win. Morrow went 3-for-4, drove in three runs and scored another. Gath notched two hits, two runs, and two RBI. Harris-Lake Park improves to 5-9 in the conference and 8-18 overall.

Spencer softball brought it’s big bats to a Lakes Conference showdown with Spirit Lake, as the Tigers defeated the Indians 12-2 in five innings. Paige Krause surrendered six runs on six hits and three walks in the first inning as the losing pitcher. Sami Ashland allowed six more runs in relief. Spirit Lake tallied four hits in the game, led by Kendra Stokke’s 2-for-2 night. Ashley Rohlf used her only hit to drive in the Indians’ only runs. Spirit Lake falls to 5-5 in conference play and 17-10 overall. They travel to Sheldon on Tuesday.

Elsewhere in the Lakes, Emmetsburg fell to LeMars, 5-3, giving the E-Hawks their second conference loss of the season.

Okoboji also took a lopsided conference loss, dropping a 13-1 decision at home to Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley. The Pioneers are an even .500 in the Siouxland at 5-5, with a 17-9 mark this summer. They host Sibley-Ocheyedan in conference play on Tuesday.
