Thursday’s non-conference baseball game in Milford featured little offense from the Okoboji Pioneers, as they fell 5-0 against North Sentral Kossuth/Armstrong-Ringsted. Sophomore Sawyer Doocy limited the Pioneers to just three hits and struck out eight for the win. Doocy was supported offensively by Garrett Jones, who went 2-3 with two runs batted in and a solo home run. Brett Beadle was 2-4 with a run scored and another driven in. Brian Dubois notched two of the three Okoboji hits, with Keaton Jones collecting the other. Dalton Syverson took the loss. The Pioneers drop to 7-9 overall and return to Siouxland Conference play on Friday when George-Little Rock comes to Milford.
Despite out-hitting West Lyon, the Harris-Lake Park Wolves fell shy of the Wildcats by a 7-4 margin on Thursday. HLP tallied nine hits, but left ten runners on base in scoring position. Ryan Mann and Eli Ihnen both notched two base hits, and Kade Heikens drove in a run. Colin Brons gave up seven runs, five earned, on four hits and walked five in four innings of work. He also struck out two. Connor Gunderson limited West Lyon to one hit in two innings of relief. The Wolves are now 1-7 this season and host Woden-Crystal Lake-Titonka for a conference doubleheader this evening.
The Spencer Tigers were no match for Lawton-Bronson on Thursday, falling 20-0 in four innings to the Eagles in a non-conference baseball matchup. The Tigers’ offense failed to register a base hit, while Lawton-Bronson had 18, led by Matt Skinner going 4-for-5 with five RBI, including a grand slam home run. His brother, Luke, had two hits and four runs driven in with a two-run homer. Spencer falls to 7-5 and travels to Cherokee on Friday.
In other baseball action, Alta-Aurelia topped Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire, 12-1.
