Spirit Lake’s Alec Baldwin Running to Ames and ISU

Spirit Lake senior Alec Baldwin has signed a new national letter of intent to run collegiate track at the Division 1 level. Baldwin, who had committed to Northwestern College earlier this year, has now re-declared to run at Iowa State University beginning next fall. This past school year, Baldwin earned four medals at the 2011 Iowa High School Track and Field Championships, winning the Class 3A 800m title, along with finishing first as a member of the 4×800 and distance medley relay teams. The 4×800 team broke a 31-year old meet record. He also finished runner-up in the 1600m run to help Spirit Lake Park finish fifth as a team.

In cross country, Baldwin won the individual Class 2A title as part of a 1-2-3 Spirit Lake Park finish. As a junior he was runner-up and took third as a sophomore. Baldwin helped guide SLP cross country to state team titles in 2009 and 2008, and to a runner-up finish this past fall.
